It seems that we all LOVE bad news. That is why we watch the nightly news, read Yahoo News, and gossip. This has come up in two main areas of my life so far…
#1 Kids. I try to warn first time parents. When they are pregnant they will be confronted with all the horror stories. “Oh, you’re 32 weeks along? I had a friend whose baby was abducted by aliens at 32 weeks.” NICE! Here is a big heads up…. if a woman is pregnant she does NOT want to hear about dead babies, SHOCK! So don’t tell her. Or about the ones born prematurely or with disabilities. Of course once the child is born they are then seen as inferior by all other Moms. “Oh, he is 8 months old. My child read the Gettysburg Address at 8 months. I am sure he will talk soon.” But I will save that rant for another post.
#2 Cancer. We have had several friends and some family members diagnosed with cancer recently. I even had one friend mention that they were introduced to someone this way… “Hey Sally, I want you to meet my friend Bob… he has Cancer.” NICE! Guess what Sally then did? Yep, she said something like “oh, I am sorry. I had a friend with Cancer. Their treatment was to have rabid chipmunks gnaw on their toes for several months in between foot baths of salt and rubbing alcohol.” OK, that is not really what they said but imagine the worst treatment and multiply it by 3.14. Guess how the story ended. Yep, they died. I have not had Cancer but I bet most if not all people with Cancer do not want to hear that crap. I know my friends don’t. One friend and I even discussed funny ways for them to head people off before they vomit all this doom and gloom on them. I said they should say something like “You know what, Cancer does have some upsides. I have received the gift of prophesy and I can read minds. For instance, right now you are thinking of someone you know or heard of who has or has had cancer. Also, you want to tell me about them…. Don’t, unless it is an uplifting story.” 🙂 lol!
Don’t get too down on yourself about it, I do it too but I am working on stopping.
Some people are like slinkies. They’re not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them nown a flight of stairs.
There are 3 kinds of people in this world. Those who are good at math and those who aren’t
