I recently received a few emails from the kids’ new school. One had a link to a document about carpool instructions and the other said to find more information (handbook, reading list, etc…) on the website. So I decided to take a look at it. Wait a minute, this doesn’t look familiar. I must have missed something. I did a quick search through my emails for information on how to access the website… nada. I went through the paperwork from the school… zip.
So I went against my “man-ness” and emailed. I apologized in case I had missed it or received it and misplaced it but could they send me information on how to access the website with the information they directed us to. The reply was one sentence: “website information will be sent in July with the Summer Mailout.” Huh?
I promise I am not as think as you dumb I am but this seems a little basackwards to me. I understand that the original email was to ALL parents and it is only the “new” parents that now have to wait for the Summer Mailout but it does seem to be an opportunity for them. I mentioned this to a current school parent and that I might contact the school further about improving communication. She warned me about stepping on toes. Oh, this is going to be an interesting year…. Just wait till I get involved in the School’s Parent Organization:)
So what did I do? I went ahead and did what any geeky guy would do…. I figured out how to generate a sign-on and I now have access to all the info without waiting on the Summer Mailout. It reminded me of my time as a recruiter trying to (successfully) access resumes and potential candidates information online when recruiting for an open position.
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
The trouble with being punctual is that nobody’s there to appreciate it.
