I sometimes (too frequently) “reward” the Triplets for good behavior. I try to make the reward “good” but all too frequently the reward is not all that great. Like today for instance. They are getting a Lunchable and a monkey drink for lunch. On the surface they don’t look all that bad, if you ignore the 530mg of sodium:) But I try to stay away from processed foods, well I use to. Oh, how far I have fallen from the organic, free range, from scratch days.
From a cost perspective their lunch today is pretty cheap: $1 for the lunchable and $.33 for the monkey drink (both on sale). But from an tree hugging, otter scrubbing, ingredient focused perspective they are a bit scary. Did you see the yahoo story on “Pink Slime” making it into school lunches and ground meat?
I also “reward” them with TV and video game time. Keep in mind I love watching TV and playing video games:) It is a constant fight to keep from giving in to what I consider lazy parenting for me. I say “for me” because this is my full time job. If I worked “outside the home” (giggle) it would be much easier for me to justify these things. But I don’t.
It’s all right letting yourself go as long as you can let yourself back.
Aim at perfection in everything, though in most things it is unattainable. However, they who aim at it, and persevere, will come much nearer to it than those whose laziness and despondency make them give it up as unattainable.
