I am a big “fan” of the backhanded compliment. One of my favorite is “it’s not that bad.” Now keep in mind, this needs to be used with humor. If not… well… you are seen as being a little mean. It really needs to be reserved for times when you are around people that know it is a joke.
There are several “cousins” to this statement… “it looks good on you,” or “oh, I couldn’t pull that off.” The main issue with this is that my kids are VERY likely to get my sense of humor. I may enjoy it but I bet you their teachers will not. I can see it now…
- Teacher: “You need to behave”
- Triplet: “I behave all the time… I think what you mean to say is that you would like to see some “better” behavior from me.”
On my income tax 1040 it says ‘Check this box if you are blind.’ I wanted to put a check mark about three inches away.
I dont exactly hate you but if you were on fire and I had water I’d drink it.
