One of my favorite lines is “I don’t read… I can, but I don’t.” Why? Don’t get me wrong, I like the “idea” of reading. The CFO LOVES reading. Sitting by a cozy fire reading a great book really does sound appealing. I actually use to like reading at one time in my life. My favorite book is the five book trilogy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. If you know me and you know the book you see the correlation right off the bat.
One of the reasons that I use for not reading is that it is an unfortunate fact that each day only has 24 hours in it. I am also a slow reader so it compounds the “time suck” that reading is for me. Yes, I understand that if I read more I will get faster. But I also would like to run faster but I am not willing to start doing wind sprints in the back yard.
The one thing I am doing is reading to the kids more. They love it and I do too. The only downside is that I usually catch a book in the noggin during story time:) So, after dinner now my goal is to read to them till bed time. Maybe it will also get me back into reading. BTW, nursery rimes are dark… I love it.
Here is a great pic of our favorite cousin Lindsay from our trip to Disney.
Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.
Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.
