Lazy parenting

Hello, my name is Al and I have been a lazy parent.

I wish I could blame it on the Summer dragging on or trying to “get it all done” or something else but the cold hard truth is that I have become a bit lazy.  How you ask?  Oh, it is a slippery slope my friend.  First it starts with Public Television.  Sure it is TV but it is “the best” TV out there, except for none.  Then you venture into Nick Jr. online.  The kids watch videos and start playing “educational” games.  You think “wow, it is helping their eye-hand coordination.”  Then you start letting them watch Netflix streaming movies.   Next was the old Nintendo Game Cube with Mario Cart and Angry Birds on the computer/Ipad.  Finally they get on a site like Agames or something similar and you have lost them.  One morning you wake up and say “who are these short tempered grumpy kids?”

What to do?  Pull the plug.   We are back to Public TV for now except for “special days” or when friends come over.  I need to and plan to get back to where it is the exception rather than the rule.

All television is educational television. The question is: what is it teaching?

Television has proved that people will look at anything rather than each other.
