We had a BUSY weekend/holiday/beginning to our week. After a rehearsal dinner, outside wedding, in-law Memorial Day party, commercial shoot, baseball game with the CFO’s company, and the stomach flu things are finally back to what I like to call “normal.” Of course as I discussed with the CFO our family is actually abnormal when you look around to see what “normal” is these days as “normal” is defined as conforming to the standard or the common type; usual.
This discussion came up after a visit to Alabama Adventures. Please keep in mind that I really am not judging others, I just want our family to take the path that seems to be less traveled these days. It seems that by not cussing at or talking down to our children we are abnormal. “Trying” to eat reasonably healthy… abnormal. Being considerate of others… abnormal. While at the baseball game I actually had a kid (around 7 or 8) yell at me and the princess to “hurry up” in the potty. He also banged on the stall door and tried climbing the wall to look in. I peeked my head out to “discuss” the issue with him:)
I say all this to say that frequently what we think is “normal” might actually be abnormal and that just might be a good thing!
Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.
Thomas Jones (1892 – 1969)
When will you understand that being normal isn’t necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage.
